I never go down this aisle any more. No need to. This pic makes me sad.
Countless pills being popped every day. That was me. That was my family. Thankfully I wasn’t one to take them every day, but I personally know many that do, for countless reasons. Now I’m not bashing all that man has created. There is a place for it for sure. Modern medicine has saved countless lives. In no way am I telling you to quit taking your meds!! You will never hear me advise that.
Wise words.
The point I’m trying to get to is this… why do we look to synthetics first? Have we as a society gotten so lazy that we just want someone to “fix” us? Sad to say, but the answer is resounding YES! We are so busy that we don’t want to address the WHY… the root cause of an issue. Most want to put a bandaid on it and go about their business. The trouble with bandaids… they don’t stick for very long and they are not a cure.
It is proven that every man-made drug causes side effects, some extremely dangerous… even deadly. If it doesn’t kill us right away, we end up with another side effect for which we need another prescription… and then we have to deal with more side effects. A vicious cycle. Why are we ok with that?
I know this is a sensitive topic that is bound to step on a few toes. I’ve never been one to candy-coat anything. Sorry.
The answer to my question: Because we are lazy and/or we as a society want to keep our head in the sand. WE DON’T WANT TO KNOW!! (This applies to many topics… world events, politics, life choices, spirituality … the list is endless… but I won’t go there today.)
Life is easier not knowing… not having to face reality and truth. If we listen we are forced to do something with the information we have received. We can accept it and apply it… and actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT… or we reject it and go back to our norm.
Sure the serious side effects say that are less common or “infrequent”… but what if you are one that takes them every day, or even every other day? What about the damage to your liver alone?
I found this on the FDA’s website. I did not know they decreased the maximum amount of acetaminophen in these products to 325 mg per tablet. Last I knew it was 500 mg. (See I told you I was never one to take OTC’s) Per their website, they answer the question as to why they are lowering it… they say, the “FDA continues to receive reports of severe liver injury associated with the use of acetaminophen-containing products. The greatest risk for severe liver injury happens when people take more than the prescribed dose of acetaminophen, take more than one acetaminophen-containing product at the same time, or drink alcohol while taking acetaminophen. Severe liver injury can lead to liver failure, liver transplant, and death.”
Their website is actually a great resource to find the side effects of any particular med, however I still recommend further research to gather ALL THE FACTS.
My husband had a liver transplant in 2010 as a result of Wilson’s Disease, which had taken it’s toll on his liver and it could no longer regenerate. (He has had a MIRACULOUS recovery, from the hand of God. The doctors were simply His instruments. Perhaps I’ll blog about that soon as I do love to tell the story!) Any way, the doctors at U of M told us in our pre-op classes that the #1 reason for liver transplants was liver failure caused by these meds!!
And, I don’t give a rat’s hiney about recommended doses. Slight damage vs severe damage… I want NO damage done to my liver, thank you very much!
What if the person taking the “recommended dose” is on another meds? What if that person drinks alcohol? What if they do not drink enough water? Most do not drink enough water to flush the system…. causing all organs to not get proper hydration. (I’m always telling everyone to DRINK WATER! I know I drive people nuts… oh well!)
Also, per their website, they say, “even a small amount more than directed can cause liver damage.”
They also say,“You may not notice the signs and symptoms of liver damage right away because they take time to appear. Or, you may mistake early symptoms of liver damage (for example, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting) for something else, like the flu. Liver damage can develop into liver failure or death over several days.”
Well not this gal!! Since my husband’s surgery in 2010, we have been on quite the journey towards better health! Boy have we come along way! Would I like to “unknow” what I know? Sometimes, yes! My studies and research have uncovered all kinds of things that are frightening… such as GMO’s, the food industry, how meat is raised, chemicals in everything, and so much more! But as I stated, now that I KNOW what I know …. I am forced to do something with this knowledge… which quite frankly, I believe it was God that showed me.
I am absolutely SOLD OUT on the fact that our health is a GIFT FROM GOD! I have been convicted that I need to take care of my body… the temple in which the Holy Spirit resides. Do I eat a perfect diet and exercise all the time? Um, no. I am not and refuse to become obsessed with this type of lifestyle … that would steal my joy as it’s almost impossible to avoid every exposure to toxins. We live in a contaminated world. Period. I treat myself, in moderation.
I think of this verse often when I think of my body being the temple where the Holy Spirit resides.“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Yes, I take that verse for what it plainly says and it is my conviction that I do not have the right to do with my body anything I please.
And while I’m on the topic of being Spiritually led to take care of our bodies, let’s talk about gluttony. Watch your toes. I warned you. Sorry, but we can’t have a discussion about better health without looking to the SOURCE!!
The definition of gluttony: The sheer defiance of reasonable and balanced behavior; habitual greed or excess in eating or drinking.
Gluttony can apply to many different areas, but today I’m just applying it to how it can have a negative effect on our health.
In my bible it says this about the glutton:
Prov 23:21 “For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”
Deut 22:20 “… This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.”
Drowsiness, stubborn, rebellious… well that certainly doesn’t sound positive does it? Here’s an online article I found on this topic, which I wholeheartedly agree with: Gluttony: Sin of Lust and Greed.
Benjamin Franklin said of man’s proneness to overeat, “In general, mankind, since the improvement of cookery, eats twice as much as nature requires.”
I should have said this earlier in this post. I better say it now. I know that having a weight issue is often a side effect of certain health issues and or could be an inherited concern. I get that and do not condemn it. If I come across mean-spirited or judgmental, I apologize. That is not my intent.
What I am hoping to convey is this: We can all do better! We should all WANT to do better. We can all do something! Doing something is better than doing nothing. We can all make better choices! No one is force feeding us.
Self inflicted obesity, pain and misery is… well… that’s just plain sad! I don’t want any one to have to live like that. All I can do is pray and try to help. That is the reason for my blog. It’s not to simply talked about essential oils. Sure the oils can help, but you have to address other areas in order to get the most benefit.
We live in the age of information. It’s at our fingertips! If you are reading this, you have no reason to say you didn’t know better. Back in the day, before computers, yes there were books on these topics, but still … most of us didn’t know. We took the “professionals” word as gold. We did as we were told, blindly trusting. Well that day is gone!
I was that person. I was blind. I did as I was told, not questioning anything. I looked to synthetics first. We ate fast food often. We drank pop by the case per week. I bought frozen, mass produced, prepared and packaged food from the local bulk warehouse and really believed I was doing a good thing. After all, it tasted good and saved me time. I’m so thankful my blinders have been RIPPED OFF!
And if you come back with this comment … “Well, you gotta die of something!”… I will delete it and block you! Now I’m being harsh, I know. But seriously… don’t say that!! I have heard that way too many times and it goes right through me! Yes, we will all die!! A fact, no doubt. However, Lord willing, we can die in good health, of natural causes. We don’t have to give in to the “norm” and do what everyone else is doing. I know my days are numbered, but if I can help it, I don’t want to die in agony I brought on myself.
Stop eating it!
What if there was something that you could do to feel better than didn’t involve crap food and synthetic meds? Would you try it? Are you willing to make changes? I hope so.
Since my family has focused on diet, food quality, exercise (we still are not consistent in this area because of busy schedules.. an excuse, yep. I’m guilty and own it.) … and we have been using Young Living Essential Oils and other products for over a year now, we have been amazingly healthy!!!
Let me say this… I will ONLY use essential oils from Young Living. They are of the utmost highest quality and frequency! What to learn more about that? Get your hands on this book by Dr. David Stewart, The Chemistry of Essential Oils. It goes into great detail about the chemistry off essential oils. Simply fascinating!! Don’t buy the lie that all oils are the same. They simply are not! I have not used or purchased OTC’s in over a year now nor am I on any prescribed meds at the age of 47. Coincidence? I think not. The oils AND life style changes work!!!

Hey everyone. Today I’m going to tell you how to make this liquid handsoap. It’s so easy! In fact, I have no reason to claim as to why I put it off for this long. “Why, Wendy, why?” I ask myself that often.
Any way… I’m sure glad I saved these foaming soap dispensers! You can buy them online on Amazon or visit your local Bath and Beyond store… or you can save them or ask your friends or family to save them for you. If you do that, be sure to show them how simple it is to make their own… lol… then maybe they will do the same and stop using the BAD-FOR-YOU chemical-filled soap from the store!
This recipe is real simple. You probably won’t need to write it down.
2 Tablespoons of liquid Castile Soap (You can use Dr. Bronner’s. I found this brand on Amazon; great reviews and it was a little cheaper.)
8 to 10 drops of whatever Essential Oil that floats your boat! (I only use Young Living, and today I’m using Thieves! Great germ killer!)
Top with water! This dispenser is 8 oz.
Now shake & use! That’s it!! Nice foamy soap that smells great!! I told you this would be simple! … and a great savings too! I’m all being frugal, except for when it comes to a few things… and that would be food, drink, personal care products, health products, and my ESSENTIAL OILS!
Other essential oils I might use in the future when I refill my soap dispensers would be Rosemary, Orange, Lemon, Purification, or Lavender. I think Thieves with Orange, Rosemary with Orange or Lemon would be great combos, or Lavender and Lemon too! Looking forward to trying these combos next time!

Since I starting using essential oils a little over one year ago, I can’t wear perfume any more. I threw it all away, including all the Bath & Body lotions & potions too! (TOXIC!! But that’s a blog post for another day.)
I have noticed that my “sniffer” has changed it’s “smeller”… lol! Corny, I know, but seriously… I can no longer tolerate artificial fragrances, including most candles. Not bashin’ the candle-lovers out there! I was one too! But now they just highly irritate me and send my sinuses into orbit!
There were a few essential oils I could NOT stand when I was first introduced to Young Living. Over time I have realized that the oils I hated I now LOVE!! … or at least like a whole lot better! One such oil – Cedarwood. I cringed when smelling it and at that time agreed with a few people I know when they described it as “cat pee”. However, after reading in several essential oil reference books on the amazing benefits of Cedarwood… I kept trying it, mixing it with Orange EO or Lavendar EO.
Guess what…? I LOVE CEDARWOOD NOW! It’s deep and earthy, like fresh cut wood in a forest. I just adore it! I’ve heard it said that if you despise an EO you probably need it. I would say I agree with that.
So… what’s a gal to do about smelling good? What does one wear if they can no longer wear or tolerate perfume? Make your own!
I got these super cool green (my favorite color) glass roller ball bottles in bulk on Amazon. Click here to see the bottles I ordered. Good to have on hand to whip up all kinds of blends for many different needs! FCO stands for fractionated coconut oil.
Yes, I made my own fragrance today. I typically use Young Living’s JOY blend as my everyday perfume, which I ADORE, but I was looking for something different, something new. So I came up with this concoction.
I call it my “Feel Good” Fragrance. I know, not real original. I was in a hurry to label it as I didn’t want to get it mixed up with hubby’s seasonal mix.
I must say, it REALLY smells good! My 18 yr old daughter loves it too! And it’s so much more than just smelling good here too! Another huge bonus to using essential oils vs artificial fragrance!
I’d love to go into great detail on everything I’ve learned about each Young Living Essential Oil I put in this fragrant blend… but I’m not legally able to do so. I highly encourage you to get your hands on some good reference materials and look up the benefit of each on your own.
What I can say about each oil is this:
Ylang Ylang is extremely effective in calming and bringing about a sense of relaxation. It may also help with releasing feelings of anger and assist with getting rid of negative feelings. In addition, it has a long history in skin- and hair-care products—particularly in Asia, where it is used to promote luxuriant hair.
Frankincense includes the naturally occurring constituent boswellic acid, and has a woodsy, warm, balsamic aroma. Diffuse Frankincense during meditation for grounding and purpose. Applying this oil topically may help smooth the appearance of healthy-looking skin, and is excellent to use for massage after activity. (Oh my, this description doesn’t do this oil justice! Please know that NOT all EO’s are the same!! Many are adulterated with synthetics, watered down, and not distilled correctly and the FREQUENCY is not at it’s highest, such as with Young Living’s. Do your own research!)
Vetiver has a heavy, earthy fragrance similar to patchouli with a touch of lemon. Vetiver oil is psychologically grounding, calming, and stabilizing. One of the oils that is highest in sesquiterpenes, vetiver was studied by Dr. Terry Friedmann for improving children’s behavior. Vetiver may help when coping with stress and to recover from emotional trauma and shock.
Orange essential oil includes the naturally occurring constituent limonene, which aids in maintaining normal cellular regeneration. Did you know that Orange Essential Oil contains 85-95% limonene? It has the highest level of d-limonene next to grapefruit oil! (A great topic to read up on!) Orange EO has calming effects and may be used for feelings of peace.
Use Essential Oils for perfume to improve your emotional and physical well being! Imagine if you could wear (or make) a perfume (or cologne) that was non-toxic to the body and actually could help you manage your stress level, or help you feel more confident. Well… you can make your own! If I can do this, so can you! Have fun with this! Try different combinations. Let the oils speak to you!
*** update 7/2/15 – I added 5 drops of Ocotea EO for good measure, plus I love it’s fragrance… and it’s soo good for my body! … and… I had to make my daughter her OWN rollerbottle because she would not stop asking for mine several times a day! She says she’s addicted to it!
About OCOTEA: Extracted from an Ecuadorian tree, ocotea has the highestlevel of alpha humulene of any Young Living essential oil, which is a compound that helps aid the body’s natural response to irritation and injury.* Ocotea also has natural cleansing and purifying properties.
Today’s personal care products, such as our soaps, hair goods and household cleaners, are simply synthetically made products that further pollute our bodies and our planet!
Did you know that approximately 98% of the essential oils produced today are for the perfume industry?
Yes, so by simple math, that leaves 2% for medicinal or therapeutic use. Perfume grade oils are cut with solvents or distilled through a solvent extraction process to save time and money, so all their therapeutic effects are lost.
And this is why you will hear me say over and over… all essential oils are NOT the same! I did about three months of research before making my choice.
I would LOVE to be the one to share Young Living Essential Oils with you! To get started, CLICK HERE! I highly recommend the NEW Premium Starter Kit! If you have any questions, please ask! If you’re ready… GREAT! Send me a message on my “Contact Me” page, and I’ll get you plugged into several resources to help you get started on your learning journey off Essential Oils!

Young Living distills this oil at the their farm in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from the leaves of the ocotea tree, and is a member of the cinnamon family. This essential oil has an aroma that is different from any common cinnamon. Ocotea is often referred to as “false cinnamon” and not near as spicy.
Ocotea has the highest levels of alpha-humulene in any known essential oil, which helps balance the body’s internal response to irritation.
May balance blood sugar (How does it know to do this? To not take you too low or too high? But bring the body into balance? This is truly a GOD THING!)
May help reduce sugar and carb cravings
May support a healthy metabolism
May support normal digestion, and more.
How to use: 1-4 drops with V-6 or other carrier oil. Topical: test on a small, inconspicuous area of the skin to observe sensitivity; apply as needed.
Dietary Supplement: 2-4 drops under tongue 3-4 times a day, or place in capsule and take daily or as directed by a health professional.
Try adding Ocotea to YL’s NINGXIA RED!
Ocotea is one of the main ingredients in the Slique Products.

Oh, am I ever excited about the new fresh look of Young Living Essential Oils! Don’t get me wrong… I was very happy with the old labels, but personally I felt they were a little dated. Check out the fresh redesign!
I originally thought the part behind the oil’s name was black like a chalkboard banner look… but upon receiving my new Lavender EO this month I was pleasantly surprised. It’s clear! And there’s an open space on the back of the bottle to let light in. Now I can see how much essential oil I have left. LOVE THAT!! Young Living – you knocked this out of the park!
Yes, I know… some of you don’t handle change well. Change is inevitable. Might as well embrace it, well in certain areas. For myself, I do prefer the “old ways” in many areas, especially when it comes to the things of God.
If you haven’t seen the labels up close yet, I promise you they look better in person than in a pic. I love the way the light shines through just enough to see the liquid goodness inside!
I can’t wait to see the rest of the EO’s in their fancy new duds! As I receive them I’ll post some updates. I just think they are so pretty!
Oh, if you are interested in learning more about Young Living Essential Oils, please contact me! We have online classes weekly, webinars, local classes, private forums with thousands of others YL peeps… all ready to help you learn more and get started on your healthier-you-journey!
Oh… there’s more exciting news on the horizon from YL… stay tuned!
Here’s my lunch today. A fresh salad with all kinds of yummy goodness! Organic greens, alfalfa sprouts, walnuts, dried cranberries, carrots, red peppers, red onions, grated cheddar from the farmer’s market, and hard boiled eggs courtesy of my very own free-range hens. Yes, those are croutons… I love them, what can I say? At least they are organic.
And you know what… in my mind, it all tastes better on my new-to-me vintage dishware I found at our local Goodwill. I’m addicted to all things vintage! This gal gets giddy about stoneware made in Japan!
Today’s “stoneware” is NOT what it used to be! It simply does not hold up. I’ve went through more new dish sets in my 21 yrs of marriage than I care to say. Disappointing to say the least. That’s why I refuse to buy new dishes any more. I’ll stick to dishware from the 60’s and 70’s. If a dinner plate can last all this time without chips, well that’s impressive and says QUALITY! And guess what, if I chip or break it, I’m only out 50 cents to a buck usually!
I have 4 each of these dishes below. I also have 4 teacups that happen to have a solid green band and no floral pattern, and match all 3 patterns. I also have 4 saucers to match two of the patterns. For some I know having a mixed set would not be acceptable, but not in my book. I love the different patterns and typically only collect florals. Aren’t they pretty?
See the maker’s mark on the back of each plate. Made in Japan…. NOT made in China! Big difference! That’s what you want to look for. And let me tell you, when you pick up a vintage stoneware dish you can FEEL the difference! They are solid! They just don’t make stuff like they used to!
Oh what is that next to my salad plate? My 40’s vintage cookie jar. We don’t keep cookies in it though. It’s become a catch-all for little objects.
Do you collect vintage dishware? I’d love to hear about your finds!
Oh, back to the salad! It was delicious! Did you know you can incorporate Young Living Essential Oils into your diet? (YLEO’s are the only ones I personally would ingest – Seed To Seal)
Here’s a great recipe for a healthy salad dressing. Skip buying them at the store. You can make your own. It’s quick and easy, with just a handful of ingredients! I love to say, “I made that!”
NingXia Red Salad Dressing Recipe:
1 oz Olive Oil,
1 oz YL’s Ningxia Red
1 oz Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar
1-3 drops YL’s Lime EO (depending on taste
Great on salad, coleslaw, or marinade. Add YL’s Citrus Fresh instead of Lime. Add a little honey to naturally sweeten (I did!). Season to taste. You can even blend in an avocado to make it creamy. Options are endless! Try it!
