Human Pinatas Everywhere!

IBGpinataSo today I’m going to share with you a very special essential oil from Young Living. My little helper that keeps me from seeing “human pinatas” everywhere and wanting to knock the snot out of them!  JUST KIDDING!

But seriously… If you live on the planet Earth, you too have days when you feel especially overwhelmed and drained. Our adrenals are maxed out, leaving us feeling like crap!

With Idaho Balsam Fir I find great adrenal support when I feel that my cortisol levels are elevated. Cortisol is the “fight or flight” hormone that our adrenal glands produce. For many their cortisol production is stuck in the “on mode” due to hectic lifestyles, careers, family stressors, busy schedules, etc. It’s no wonder we feel worn out!  IBF to the rescue!

How do I use it? I apply it to my pulse points – my wrists and carotids (along the sides of my neck), and brain stem (back of upper neck, at hair line)… but I don’t stop there. To enjoy the full benefits of this amazing oil, don’t forget to BREATHE it in!! The warm aroma is so soothing and rejuvenating to the body and mind. Its grounding, yet stimulating. Within minutes I’m feeling like myself again… and I can put down the bat and not hurt anyone!

Also… it’s an excellent support for the respiratory system, urinary system, immune system, and promotes healthy join and cartilage health. WOW!

The naturally occuring constituents beta-pinene and camphene are found in this essential YLIBFoil. Idaho Balsam Fir is an important ingredient in several of Young Living products such as BLM, Animal Scents Ointment, Deep Relief Roll-On, Believe, Gratitude, Transformation, and En-R-Gee.

I do recommend diluting essential oils before applying them topically, especially if you know you have sensitive skin or are applying on children. Diluting with a carrier oil (coconut oil, grape seed oil, sunflower oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, just to name a few) also makes your oils last longer and spread easier over your skin.

Did you know? The best time to harvest IBF is in the winter months. Gary Young harvests it in Idaho (obvious, I know), a few miles south of the Canadian border. He has found that the fir needles contain the highest amount of essential oil during this time of year.

Click here to watch a video of the harvest!

If you are not a member of Young Living and would like to be, the best way to start is with the purchase of the Premium Starter Kit. (The best bang for your buck!… you get your own wholesale account which gives you a 24% discount of all future orders!) Idaho Balsam Fir is not in the kit. I do recommend ordering it as one of your first purchases after you receive your starter kit.

diffuserP.S. For the remainder of April, anyone enrolling with me by the purchase of the Premium Starter Kit, will receive a stainless steel diffuser necklace as pictured here. Design may vary. My gift to you! You will love to wear your favorite Young Living Essential Oil in your diffuser pendant! I do!

Any questions, let me know!

Stop the Faucet

kleenexSo this was me for the past 3 days. Blowing my nose nonstop. Banned to the couch to sleep elevated. Desperate for sleep. Desperate to stop the constant running faucet on my face, that was a nice shade of pink, painful to the touch, and now covered with dry peeling skin. You know what I’m talking about. Oh it’s so miserable!

I was desperate to avoid using synthetic remedies. I don’t do that any more!! I threw them all out. I hate the side effects and possible harm to my body! Some of them gave me night terrors and left me feeling “high” for days! No joke! Personally, I don’t know why anyone would pay good money to feel that way, but that’s none of my business! 😉

I did everything I could think of. I do use Young Living Essential Oils, and normally they help me return to normal rather quickly. But this time was different!

So… two Kleenex boxes and a roll of toilet paper later… it hits me… NASAL SPRAY! Normally I’m not one to use it because it always burned my sinus cavities terribly. I searched for a recipe to make my own! This is what I came up with.

I found an old saline nasal spray bottle (2 oz) of my husband’s, washed out of course. (You can get a nice nasal misting bottle at your local health food store or on Amazon.) I first added a pinch of Himalayan salt. Why?  Well, the salt will help oils absorb better in the water solution and not sit on top of the water. You will still need to shake before each use though. Also, he salt to this solution will moisturize the mucosa and supports its natural regeneration, making it more difficult for the bacteria and viruses to nest and develop into an infection. Why Himalayan salt? Because it’s REAL salt with the minerals our body needs. I do not recommend the useless white table salt for this recipe. (You may wish to research the benefits of Himalayan salt vs the pretty white table salt.)

I then added 6 drops Lavender, 4 drops Frankincense, and 3 drops Tea Tree oil – all of which help to support a healthy nasal and respiratory system, and can help with seasonal relief as well. Think spring! Next I topped it off with distilled water. You want water free of any impurities, especially since you are spraying it into your head!

Recipe below.

Let me just say this……… WOW! Oh. My. Word. My nose was doing the happy dance! Why did I not do this sooner!!?? I must be a glutton for punishment and suffering!! With the first use I immediately felt 50% better. BONUS: It did not burn! It was comforting and soothing. I sprayed again just before bed. I actually slept… with my mouth shut… and no need to stuff my nose with tissue to stop the “running faucet”! TMI, I know.

I learned the hard way. Don’t do that! Make this up and get ahead of it! From now on I’ll just spray once a day, every morning, as part of my morning routine. Think preventative maintenance. It’s smart, says the gal that went through all that!! <kicking myself still>

Oh.. by the way, Lavender and Frankincense are in the Premium Starter Kit! I would recommend purchasing Tea Tree Essential Oil as a future purchase.

LIGHT BULB!! This just popped in my head! If anyone reading this blog post purchases the Premium Starter Kit through my link from now, 3/31/16 to 4/15/16, I will send you a bottle of Tea Tree Oil FREE! That’s a $34.21 retail value! You might want to jump on that before I rethink it! J/K! Killer deal, seriously! I just really want you to try this recipe! 😉

Here’s the above recipe:

This pic makes me sad.

I never go down this aisle any more. No need to. This pic makes me sad.

Countless pills being popped every day. That was me. That was my family. Thankfully I wasn’t one to take them every day, but I personally know many that do, for countless reasons. Now I’m not bashing all that man has created. There is a place for it for sure. Modern medicine has saved countless lives. In no way am I telling you to quit taking your meds!! You will never hear me advise that.

Wise words.
Wise words.

The point I’m trying to get to is this… why do we look to synthetics first? Have we as a society gotten so lazy that we just want someone to “fix” us? Sad to say, but the answer is resounding YES! We are so busy that we don’t want to address the WHY… the root cause of an issue. Most want to put a bandaid on it and go about their business. The trouble with bandaids… they don’t stick for very long and they are not a cure.

It is proven that every man-made drug causes side effects, some extremely dangerous… even deadly.  If it doesn’t kill us right away, we end up with another side effect for which we need another prescription… and then we have to deal with more side effects. A vicious cycle. Why are we ok with that?

I know this is a sensitive topic that is bound to step on a few toes. I’ve never been one to candy-coat anything. Sorry.

The answer to my question: Because we are lazy and/or we as a society want to keep our head in the sand. WE DON’T WANT TO KNOW!! (This applies to many topics… world events, politics, life choices, spirituality … the list is endless… but I won’t go there today.)

Life is easier not knowing… not having to face reality and truth. If we listen we are forced to do something with the information we have received. We can accept it and apply it… and actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT… or we reject it and go back to our norm.

Here’s a list of possible side effects from taking Motrin listed on the FDA’s website: List Motrin side effects by likelihood and severity.

Another list of possible side effects from Advil: List Advil side effects by likelihood and severity.

Sure the serious side effects say that are less common or “infrequent”… but what if you are one that takes them every day, or even every other day? What about the damage to your liver alone?

I found this on the FDA’s website. I did not know they decreased the maximum amount of acetaminophen in these products to 325 mg per tablet. Last I knew it was 500 mg. (See I told you I was never one to take OTC’s) Per their website, they answer the question as to why they are lowering it… they say, the “FDA continues to receive reports of severe liver injury associated with the use of acetaminophen-containing products. The greatest risk for severe liver injury happens when people take more than the prescribed dose of acetaminophen, take more than one acetaminophen-containing product at the same time, or drink alcohol while taking acetaminophen. Severe liver injury can lead to liver failure, liver transplant, and death.”

Here’s the link to read for yourself: Questions and Answers about Oral Prescription Acetaminophen Products to be Limited to 325 mg Per Dosage Unit

Their website is actually a great resource to find the side effects of any particular med, however I still recommend further research to gather ALL THE FACTS.

My husband had a liver transplant in 2010 as a result of Wilson’s Disease, which had taken it’s toll on his liver and it could no longer regenerate. (He has had a MIRACULOUS recovery, from the hand of God. The doctors were simply His instruments. Perhaps I’ll blog about that soon as I do love to tell the story!) Any way, the doctors at U of M told us in our pre-op classes that the #1 reason for liver transplants was liver failure caused by these meds!!

And, I don’t give a rat’s hiney about recommended doses. Slight damage vs severe damage… I want NO damage done to my liver, thank you very much!

What if the person taking the “recommended dose” is on another meds?  What if that person drinks alcohol? What if they do not drink enough water? Most do not drink enough water to flush the system…. causing all organs to not get proper hydration. (I’m always telling everyone to DRINK WATER! I know I drive people nuts… oh well!)

Also, per their website, they say, “even a small amount more than directed can cause liver damage.”

They also say, “You may not notice the signs and symptoms of liver damage right away because they take time to appear. Or, you may mistake early symptoms of liver damage (for example, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting) for something else, like the flu. Liver damage can develop into liver failure or death over several days.”

Did you know about a recent recall of Children’s Tylenol? And they “… pleaded guilty to a federal charge that it sold contaminated medication for nearly a year after uncovering the issue.” HUH? Yep. Maker of Infant’s & Children’s Tylenol, Motrin To Pay $25M For Selling Meds With Metal Particles

And the people are gently rocked back to sleep…

Well not this gal!! Since my husband’s surgery in 2010, we have been on quite the journey towards better health! Boy have we come along way! Would I like to “unknow” what I know? Sometimes, yes! My studies and research have uncovered all kinds of things that are frightening… such as GMO’s, the food industry, how meat is raised, chemicals in everything, and so much more! But as I stated, now that I KNOW what I know …. I am forced to do something with this knowledge… which quite frankly, I believe it was God that showed me.

I am absolutely SOLD OUT on the fact that our health is a GIFT FROM GOD! I have been convicted that I need to take care of my body… the temple in which the Holy Spirit resides. Do I eat a perfect diet and exercise all the time? Um, no. I am not and refuse to become obsessed with this type of lifestyle … that would steal my joy as it’s almost impossible to avoid every exposure to toxins. We live in a contaminated world. Period. I treat myself, in moderation.

I think of this verse often when I think of my body being the temple where the Holy Spirit resides. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.  Yes, I take that verse for what it plainly says and it is my conviction that I do not have the right to do with my body anything I please.

And while I’m on the topic of being Spiritually led to take care of our bodies, let’s talk about gluttony. Watch your toes. I warned you. Sorry, but we can’t have a discussion about better health without looking to the SOURCE!!

The definition of gluttony: The sheer defiance of reasonable and balanced behavior; habitual greed or excess in eating or drinking.

Gluttony can apply to many different areas, but today I’m just applying it to how it can have a negative effect on our health.

In my bible it says this about the glutton:

  • Prov 23:21 “For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”
  • Deut 22:20 “… This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.”

Drowsiness, stubborn, rebellious… well that certainly doesn’t sound positive does it? Here’s an online article I found on this topic, which I wholeheartedly agree with: Gluttony: Sin of Lust and Greed.

Benjamin Franklin said of man’s proneness to overeat, In general, mankind, since the improvement of cookery, eats twice as much as nature requires.”

I should have said this earlier in this post. I better say it now. I know that having a weight issue is often a side effect of certain health issues and or could be an inherited concern. I get that and do not condemn it. If I come across mean-spirited or judgmental, I apologize. That is not my intent.

What I am hoping to convey is this:  We can all do better! We should all WANT to do better. We can all do something! Doing something is better than doing nothing. We can all make better choices! No one is force feeding us.

Self inflicted obesity, pain and misery is… well…  that’s just plain sad! I don’t want any one to have to live like that. All I can do is pray and try to help. That is the reason for my blog. It’s not to simply talked about essential oils. Sure the oils can help, but you have to address other areas in order to get the most benefit.

We live in the age of information. It’s at our fingertips! If you are reading this, you have no reason to say you didn’t know better. Back in the day, before computers, yes there were books on these topics, but still … most of us didn’t know. We took the “professionals” word as gold. We did as we were told, blindly trusting. Well that day is gone!

I was that person. I was blind.  I did as I was told, not questioning anything. I looked to synthetics first. We ate fast food often. We drank pop by the case per week. I bought frozen, mass produced, prepared and packaged food from the local bulk warehouse and really believed I was doing a good thing. After all, it tasted good and saved me time. I’m so thankful my blinders have been RIPPED OFF!

And if you come back with this comment … “Well, you gotta die of something!”… I will delete it and block you! Now I’m being harsh, I know. But seriously… don’t say that!! I have heard that way too many times and it goes right through me! Yes, we will all die!! A fact, no doubt. However, Lord willing, we can die in good health, of natural causes. We don’t have to give in to the “norm” and do what everyone else is doing. I know my days are numbered, but if I can help it, I don’t want to die in agony I brought on myself.

Stop eating it!
Stop eating it!

What if there was something that you could do to feel better than didn’t involve crap food and synthetic meds? Would you try it? Are you willing to make changes? I hope so.

Since my family has focused on diet, food quality, exercise (we still are not consistent in this area because of busy schedules.. an excuse, yep. I’m guilty and own it.) … and we have been using Young Living Essential Oils and other products for over a year now, we have been amazingly healthy!!!

Let me say this… I will ONLY use essential oils from Young Living. They are of the utmost highest quality and frequency! What to learn more about that? Get your hands on this book by Dr. David Stewart, The Chemistry of Essential Oils. It goes into great detail about the chemistry off essential oils. Simply fascinating!! Don’t buy the lie that all oils are the same. They simply are not! I have not used or purchased OTC’s in over a year now nor am I on any prescribed meds at the age of 47. Coincidence? I think not. The oils AND life style changes work!!!

Make Your Own Soap!

Hey everyone. Today I’m going to tell you how to make this liquid handsoap. It’s so easy! In fact, I have no reason to claim as to why I put it off for this long. “Why, Wendy, why?” I ask myself that often.

Any way… I’m sure glad I saved these foaming soap dispensers! You can buy them online on Amazon or visit your local Bath and Beyond store… or you can save them or ask your friends or family to save them for you. If you do that, be sure to show them how simple it is to make their own… lol… then maybe they will do the same and stop using the BAD-FOR-YOU chemical-filled soap from the store!

This recipe is real simple. You probably won’t need to write it down.

  • 2 Tablespoons of liquid Castile Soap (You can use Dr. Bronner’s. I found this brand on Amazon; great reviews and it was a little cheaper.)
  • 8 to 10 drops of whatever Essential Oil that floats your boat! (I only use Young Living, and today I’m using Thieves! Great germ killer!)
  • Top with water! This dispenser is 8 oz.

Now shake & use! That’s it!! Nice foamy soap that smells great!! I told you this would be simple! … and a great savings too! I’m all being frugal, except for when it comes to a few things… and that would be food, drink, personal care products, health products, and my ESSENTIAL OILS!

Other essential oils I might use in the future when I refill my soap dispensers would be Rosemary, Orange, Lemon, Purification, or Lavender. I think Thieves with Orange, Rosemary with Orange or Lemon would be great combos, or Lavender and Lemon too! Looking forward to trying these combos next time!

If you do not have essential oils, I can help you with that! Learn about Young Living’s HIGH standards and distillation process here: SEED TO SEAL

My dog had a “episode”

RosiePosieSee this sweet dog. Her name is Rosie (aka Rosie Posie) and she’s been with us one year this month. Rosie is a purebred Australian Shepherd and she turned 10 yrs old this past January. Her previous owner passed away and the daughter worked too many hours and didn’t feel it was right for Rosie to be alone all day. It was a fluke that I came across the rescue post… or was it? I like to think it was meant to be! The decision to adopt a senior pet is one of the best we’ve ever made! Yes, that’s my plug for pet adoption/rescue! Do it if you can!

Back to what I was saying… yesterday Rosie walked, or should I say, wobbled into the kitchen and appeared disoriented and scared. I knew instantly she was having “convulsion” activity. We’ve seen this before. Over 15 yrs ago we had a retriever named Zeke that suffered from this. I’ve learned alot since then!

I instantly asked my daughter to grab my Frankincense Essential Oil.  I don’t know if I applied it right, but it worked! I put several drops in my hands and rubbed it on her rear paws. Then as I laid on the floor with her I put my hand near her nose so she would gently inhale the oil fragrance. I had my hand about 6 to 8 inches away as I know a dog’s nose is super sensitive. She tolerated it surprisingly well, in fact, I believe it calmed her down in addition to stopping the convulsing.

Why did I use Frankincense?

Well, I’ve studied essential oils for a year now… the same length of time I’ve been with Young Living. Frankincense is known as “the big guns”. What a power house of an oil! I have several reference books and have studied at great length. I suggest you do the same!

I have many reference books. If you would like to know what books I refer to, please contact me.

And why did I apply Frankincense to her paws?

When essential oils are applied with pressure to the reflex (or vita-flex) points, electrical impulses are released. These impulses carry the essential oils up the nerve pathway and into specific areas of the body. This in turn releases energy to support the systems of the body. (Looking at this Vita Flex chart I now notice the spot  for application concerning the brain. Rosie got all points yesterday.)

Vita-Flex points work for us humans too! Have a runny nose? Apply a few EO’s to your feet, focusing on the toes! Crazy? I know! But it works!!

In my studies on Frankincense I have learned it is the Essential Oil of choice for any kind of brain disorder. What a fascinating oil that God has given us!!

Young Living Frankincense Essential Oil
Young Living’s Frankincense

Frankincense has a molecular makeup that includes sesquiterpenes, that are able to cross the blood/brain barrier. These sesquiterpenes stimulate the limbic system of the brain and other glands within the brain, promoting memory and releasing emotions. (This oil has also been a huge relief for me concerning my own emotional needs!) Frankincense slows down and deepens the breath.

The therapeutic properties of Frankincense oil are antiseptic, astringent, carminative, cicatrisant, cytophylactic, digestive, diuretic, expectorant, sedative, expectorant and more.

You can do your own research on Frankincense. Personally, I only use and recommend Young Living Essential Oils (YL’s is proven to be the highest frequency because of their Seed to Seal process! Essential oils are not all the same! Don’t buy that lie!) because of their integrity and commitment to purity. Visit Seed to Seal to learn more…. and you’ll see why I will use nothing but Young Living! “Seed to Seal” – It’s not just a slogan.

Young Living’s latest blog post about essential oils and pets: Essential Oils and Pets: A Quick How-To

As for Rosie’s activity we witnessed yesterday… my plan is to apply the Frankincense a few times a week, maybe every other day… and wait and see. I’ll keep you posted as to if she has one again… or maybe she won’t?

Rosie – you are only 10 yrs old and we love you so much!  We knew our time would be limited with you from day one, but know this… we will do our best to keep you healthy so you can enjoy your golden years to the fullest.

A New Look!

Oh, am I ever excited about the new fresh look of Young Living Essential Oils!Label Makeover! Don’t get me wrong… I was very happy with the old labels, but personally I felt they were a little dated. Check out the fresh redesign!

Label changes!I originally thought the part behind the oil’s name was black like a chalkboard banner look… but upon receiving my new Lavender EO this month I was pleasantly surprised. It’s clear! And there’s an open space on the back of the bottle to let light in. Now I can see how much essential oil I have left. LOVE THAT!!  Young Living – you knocked this out of the park!

Yes, I know… some of you don’t handle change well. Change is inevitable. Might as well embrace it, well in certain areas. For myself, I do prefer the “old ways” in many areas, especially when it comes to the things of God.

If you haven’t seen the labels up close yet, I promise you they look better in person than in a pic. I love the way the light shines through just enough to see the liquid goodness inside!

I can’t wait to see the rest of the EO’s in their fancy new duds! As I receive them I’ll post some updates. I just think they are so pretty!

Oh, if you are interested in learning more about Young Living Essential Oils, please contact me! We have online classes weekly, webinars, local classes, private forums with thousands of others YL peeps… all ready to help you learn more and get started on your healthier-you-journey!

Oh… there’s more exciting news on the horizon from YL… stay tuned!

Lunch on Vintage Dishware

I love salads! Here’s my lunch today. A fresh salad with all kinds of yummy goodness! Organic greens, alfalfa sprouts, walnuts, dried cranberries, carrots, red peppers, red onions, grated cheddar from the farmer’s market, and hard boiled eggs courtesy of my very own free-range hens. Yes, those are croutons… I love them, what can I say? At least they are organic.

And you know what… in my mind, it all tastes better on my new-to-me vintage dishware I found at our local Goodwill. I’m addicted to all things vintage! This gal gets giddy about stoneware made in Japan!

Today’s “stoneware” is NOT what it used to be! It simply does not hold up. I’ve went through more new dish sets in my 21 yrs of marriage than I care to say. Disappointing to say the least. That’s why I refuse to buy new dishes any more. I’ll stick to dishware from the 60’s and 70’s. If a dinner plate can last all this time without chips, well that’s impressive and says QUALITY! And guess what, if I chip or break it, I’m only out 50 cents to a buck usually!

I have 4 each of these dishes below. I also have 4 teacups that happen to have a solid green band and no floral pattern, and match all 3 patterns. I also have 4 saucers to match two of the patterns. For some I know having a mixed set would not be acceptable, but not in my book. I love the different patterns and typically only collect florals. Aren’t they pretty?

Love my vintage dishes!

See the maker’s mark on the back of each plate. Made in Japan…. NOT made in China! Big difference!  That’s what you want to look for. And let me tell you, when you pick up a vintage stoneware dish you can FEEL the difference! They are solid! They just don’t make stuff like they used to!

Oh what is that next to my salad plate? My 40’s vintage cookie jar. We don’t keep cookies in it though. It’s become a catch-all for little objects.

Do you collect vintage dishware? I’d love to hear about your finds!

Oh, back to the salad! It was delicious! Did you know you can incorporate Young Living Essential Oils into your diet? (YLEO’s are the only ones I personally would ingest – Seed To Seal)

Here’s a great recipe for a healthy salad dressing. Skip buying them at the store. You can make your own. It’s quick and easy, with just a handful of ingredients! I love to say, “I made that!”

NingXia Red Salad Dressing Recipe:Ningxia Red dressing

  • 1 oz Olive Oil,
  • 1 oz YL’s Ningxia Red
  • 1 oz Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1-3 drops YL’s Lime EO (depending on taste

Great on salad, coleslaw, or marinade. Add YL’s Citrus Fresh instead of Lime. Add a little honey to naturally sweeten (I did!). Season to taste. You can even blend in an avocado to make it creamy. Options are endless! Try it!

#RespectTheFlag

Unless you have your head completely in the sand, you probably have seen on the news the latest disgrace and shameful new trend. Stomping on the United States of America flag. I’m going to keep this post short because I am just so disturbed by this. Such disrespect for all that our flag stands for! An act of spitting in the face of all who serve or have served this country, active or inactive, alive or deceased. Are they completely out of their minds? I just can’t relate! Lord, have mercy on us a nation!

SHOW US YOUR FLAG!I work for our family business, a local independent insurance agency as the social media director. This week I was moved by this photo of an 11 yr old young girl standing by the flag.  I received permission from her father to share this pic, and he added that she “loves God, family and her country”.

Does this pic speak to you too? What can you do? What can we do? We can stand up, be heard, be seen, and unite to fight for all Old Glory stands for! If you don’t have a flag, get one! We have always wanted one, but for some reason never got around to buying one. By this weekend we will have a flag, and it will be MADE IN THE USA too!

The agency is running a contest right now, asking locals and people all over #respecttheflagto share a pic of them or family member wearing a flag tshirt, standing near a flag, bumper sticker, whatever… as long as it’s fit for a family audience. The contest is called “SHOW US YOUR FLAG”. I’ll put the blog post from the agency’s site if you want more details… and share your pic with us too! The contest winner will be a Michigan resident, however, don’t let that hold you back from sharing a pic! Let’s start a movement!!

SHOW US YOUR FLAG! Let’s stand together – be seen, be heard!

I make soup!

That’s what I do! I make soup! Little inside family joke there.

I’m no baker by any means. I mean, I can bake cookies, cupcakes, basic desserts… but it’s really not my calling nor do I care do do it! Weird I know. (My poor husband… his mother is a baker supreme!! Sorry honey!) For my own personal health, I’m actually thankful baking is not my forte’. But… I do make a mean soup, so my family says. I can’t recall the exact conversation in our house one day… but my reply was, “I make soup!” My husband and daughter cracked up… and so the phrase stuck.

potSo many will ask for a recipe, but it’s really hard for me to share because I don’t follow any given recipe. My soups are never the same soup twice! I have a BIG red 12 qt pot… and in my head I know I need about 3 lbs of meat (if I add meat) 2 qts beans, 3-4 qts broth, 4-5 large carrots, 1 large onion, then I just “eyeball” the rest. I just use what I have on hand, or follow a basic base recipe (broth or tomato base) and often throw in leftovers. Add whatever veggies you like! You can’t go wrong. I truly think soup is the perfect meal. For those who think they can’t do this… YES YOU CAN! Soup is so easy, so versatile… you can’t mess it up!

Note: I cook gluten-free for the hubby, but we all follow the diet for the most part. Want to thicken your soup without flour? You can use corn starch (Use organic/non-gmo… it’s available!) You can stir in a can of refried beans if it’s bean based, or use your hand blender and mash it up a bit, especially if it has beans or potatoes in it. This soup I did not thicken, but adding the cheese & half & half did give it the consistency I was going for.

This week’s soup: Turkey & Bean (Gluten free too!)

  • 3 lbs local raised ground turkey (Love my farmer’s market!)
  • 2 jars Randals mixed beans (These are NON GMO!)
  • 3 qts broth (Your own or use organic chicken or veggie broth from store)
  • 1 8oz Organic Tomato soup or sauce. (I used what I had on hand.)
  • 3-4 cups frozen corn
  • 4 large diced carrots
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 drop Young Living Rosemary or Thyme EO (optional! I ONLY use YLEO’s)
  • Season – I use REAL or Himalayan salt, pepper, whatever floats your boat.
  • Cheese of your choice
  • 1 cup or so of half & half (optional)

Brown turkey with onion & carrots. Drain. Add broth, beans, seasoning. Simmer then grate cheese in. I used smoked cheddar. I added the half & half at the end because I wanted the soup to have some creamy, cheesy goodness. Done! Soup’s on!
